Why DRICORE™ PRO Concrete Repair?

Annual freeze and thaw cycles and pressure from the surrounding soil create strain on a foundation wall which can cause cracks to form. Note: Only use injection for cracks in poured concrete walls. We do not recommend injecting into concrete block (CMU) walls, as their hollow structure requires a different repair method.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will carbon fiber straighten a wall?

Carbon fiber prevents further inward movement, but will not straighten a wall.

Up to what deflection is carbon fiber an acceptable strengthening system?

There is no absolute number to go by, since there are many factors to consider. To figure out the deflection in your wall, measure the difference of the highest amount of deflection compared to the rest of the wall, and please consult with your structural engineer or foundation specialist for more information.

What repair options do I have if my wall is deflected beyond 2-inches?

You have several options when your wall deflection reaches beyond 2-inches. Your first option is to excavate the soil that is exerting pressure on your basement wall, and to push the wall back. Another option is to install a steel mechanical system such as steel tie-backs. We recommend reinforcing the wall with carbon fiber regardless of which system is chosen to prevent future inward movement. Please contact your structural engineer or foundation repair specialist to do a thorough inspection and analysis.

I’m not sure about the foundation and settlement around my home. What are some of the signs I should look for?

There are several signs you can look for on the interior and exterior of your home. Within your home, it is important to check your walls or ceilings for cracks and if your windows or doors are difficult to open and close. You may also notice uneven floor surfaces or cracks in concrete floors. Outside of your home, ensure you look for cracks in masonry walls that are in a “stair-step” pattern. Other signs include a tilting chimney, wood trim that has been separated around joints and corners and if the concrete driveway, sidewalk, patio or any other concrete structures separated from the foundation.

I’ve noticed cracks in my foundation and a few on my basement walls – are these serious?

It is a good idea to contact your foundation repair specialist for further review of the cracks in your foundation. If you are noticing a crack in your foundation, most of the time it means that something has shifted or settled so it should be addressed immediately.

My walls have started to buckle or bow in. I’ve heard that digging around the entire house and basically re-building the basement walls is the only solution. Is this true?

Each property is different, because of this, the solution is specific to the structure of your home. In some cases this may be true, however, the process of re-building basement walls can be an inconvenience due to its high cost, property disturbance and the amount of time it takes to complete. It’s best to have a foundation specialist analyze your bowed walls to help determine a solution, but if the deflection is less than 2” the Dricore™ PRO Concrete Repair Bowed Wall Kit can be an option for the repair.

I’m planning to build a new home and would like to prevent any foundation settlement in the future. Can this be done?

During the process of building your home and before a foundation is constructed, you can install a piering system to strengthen the foundation. It may also help to consult your foundation specialist during the process of construction so an analysis of the property can determine the proper foundation settlement prevention strategy.

Can I paint over carbon fiber to match the color of the wall I’m repairing?

In most cases, carbon fiber can easily be painted over or covered with a finishing product. Please consult with your paint/coating manufacturer for guidelines and TDS.

Do I need any UV exposure protection if I’m installing carbon fiber outdoors?

Yes, the epoxy in the carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) system can be affected by UV light and we always recommend covering exposed carbon fiber with a finishing product when installing outdoors.

Is carbon fiber fire resistant?

Carbon fiber fabric on its own is fire resistant, but the epoxy used to apply it doesn’t perform well against high temperature. If you have a specific requirement for fire resistance, please contact your engineer to source out the right fire-resistant coating for the CFRP system.

My basement is finished. Will it be ruined after the work is complete?

There is minimal disruption to your basement.

Will my homeowner’s insurance cover the cost?

Unfortunately, in most cases homeowner’s insurance will not cover the cost.

I just bought a house and discovered a problem. Do I have any recourse against the previous owner?

Absolutely. The disclosure statement should have reflected the problem and if the previous owners were aware of the problem, they are obligated to fix it. You can discuss this with a DRICORE™ PRO Concrete Repair representative and then your attorney. Additionally, if you are selling a house, you have to fix the problem prior to selling the house.

Can work be done during the winter?

Work can be completed year round.

I have a small crack in my wall. Should I still install the DRICORE™ PRO Concrete Repair system?

Yes, if your wall is cracked it will continue to get worse over the next few years. It is better to fix it when the wall is not bowing rather than after a large bow occurs.

My wall is moving at the top or bottom, but not the middle of the wall, will the DRICORE™ PRO Concrete Repair system work?

Yes, we have products designed to fix this problem. Please consult your structural engineer or foundation specialist for more information.

Will the DRICORE™ PRO Concrete Repair system fix a sinking or settling foundation?

No, unfortunately no carbon fiber system will be able to stop this. You should consult with a piering contractor for a solution.

Is there a warranty available? Is it transferrable?

Our product warranties are available on our website www.dricore.com, and vary by product. The warranties apply only to the consumer who originally purchased the product, and do not extend to any subsequent owner or other transferee of the product.
