Is a floor drain necessary?

No, but if you have a drain or access to clean-outs, access should be maintained, not restricted. Be sure to check with your local authority for building code recommendations before covering any basement floor drain or clean-out access.

It is not a requirement to install a basement drain prior to installing DRICORE® Subfloor. If you install DRICORE® Subfloor panels over the drain access, cut an access opening in the panel that rests over top of the drain and install a decorative floor drain cover over top of your finished flooring.

Skip Bedell (TV Host and Professional Contractor)

“You never want to put your finished floors on top of wet, damp, and cold concrete. DRICORE® Subfloors gives you a layer of protection to help with moisture and cold coming from concrete.”

“Nobody wants a musty smell in the house and that’s why I go with DRICORE® Subfloors.”

Bryan Baeumler (HGTV Host and Professional Contractor)

“In my mind, you cannot finish a basement without putting down DRICORE®. Every house I’ve ever built has DRICORE® in the basement, it’s the only way to do it.”
